Most often used in the field of e-learning, is a big buzz-word, but actual application is relatively under-used.
Microlearning refers to relatively small learning units and short-term activities, often just meeting one single learning objective.
Say you are putting together a course on Workplace Safety. The course will encompass many topics including hazardous materials, evacuation procedures, and work locations, to name a few. To help determine whether microlearning solutions can help, ask yourself:
- Does everyone need all the content? (Do office workers need the same training as field workers?)
- Are there parts of this training someone may want to refer to often? (How to read WHIMIS labels?)
- Can any ‘chunks’ be stand-alone? (Preparing your workstation for next shift)
If the answer is yes to any of these, there is likely an opportunity to create some microlearning components to your training! Let’s connect, we would be glad to assist you with this.
