You have a workplace issue that requires immediate attention and you need your employees to have access to the information they are looking for in that exact moment – how can you make that possible?
That is where just-in-time training (JIT) comes in!
Just-in-time training is utilized when there is content that will likely need to be available to learners on-demand, at the moment of learner need. An Instructional Designer will identify the need for JIT training during the analysis phase, and it can be created as stand-alone training or part of a larger training solution.
An example of just-in-time training could be a demo video on how to operate a piece of equipment, or an e-learning module on preparing for an annual performance review. It might even be YouTube video on how to navigate the new iphone X with no home button (real life!). We practice it almost every day and we don’t even realize it.
It puts the control back in the employee’s hands so instead of saying, “I don’t know, I need to wait a month for the next training class” they might now say “Let me look it up, I have some info right here”. It will help employees to retain the information better as they will then put it to use right away instead of sitting on the information waiting for the time to use their newfound knowledge.
