Most seem to believe that they know exactly what eLearning is.
For example, they may think that signing in to a Zoom webinar, or obtaining a degree through online courses is where eLearning starts and stops.
However, eLearning actually goes much deeper than just these examples.
We can better define eLearning as a spectrum of different choices that are based on three important questions.
Those questions are:
• who is the learner;
• what is the learning objective; and
• how do we expect them to consume the training?
Within these questions are several subquestions to ask, in order to reach further clarity.
While these subquestions vary, some common ones are:
• what do we know about the learner;
• what is their previous experience;
• what is their previous knowledge in the topic area;
• what do they like or dislike; and
• what is the learner’s demographic information?
A Dynamic Solution
For example, persons associate eLearning with their laptops or desktops. However, the above questions may help us gain clarity in discovering that the best method to deliver a customer’s particular eLearning is actually via a mobile device, perhaps because the persons within their industry are constantly on-the-go and not often readily in front of a desktop.
In other words, eLearning is not a static, cookie-cutter solution across different customers and industries.
It should be a dynamic and fluid method to deliver learning and training in a way that makes the material easy and convenient to consume.
