Did you know that eLearning includes a broad scope of choices? Depending on what the learning goal is, who the learners are and how you expect them to consume training—an organization will make different design and deployment choices. And one of these options is video.
Three Benefits of Using Video in eLearning
- Easy to Consume: Chunking information is an effective way to make content more palatable and increase your learner’s knowledge retention. Video is a perfect way to accomplish this.
- Perfect for Visual Learners: Each person has a different learning style. Visual learners understand and retain information better when ideas and concepts are related to images. Videos, as you can imagine, are a perfect tool for visual learning.
- Non-verbal expressions and related actions: A video showcasing a storyteller will allow learners to experience nonverbal expressions. Also, using a voice-over narration from the storyteller will enable learners to experience images of related actions such as scenes from the workplace.
In summary, video is an incredible way to make a story come alive.
Check out this video about Dan Plexman and see how it incorporates aspects of each of the above points. And to learn more about why we created this content and how it fits into our client’s substantial and more comprehensive eLearning strategy.
Dan’s video is a 3-minute teaser we created for a client to promote a full, extended, 40-minute feature (which we also created) in support of their online Health, Safety, and Wellness training program.
In the teaser video Members of the Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW) share their honest and moving feedback after attending Dan Plexman’s compelling presentation—where he shared his physical and emotional experiences after a horrific workplace accident.
A goal of the creation and promotion of the teaser video was to invite Members of CUSW to watch the extended, full-length video (published in a password-protected area of the CUSW website).
